I am aiding and abetting illegals in my backyard.  While Nashville legalized having backyard chickens back in 2012, they remain illegal in my neighborhood.  I know.  This isn’t the America our forefathers had in mind, but it is unfortunately the sliver of America I live in.  So, we decided to live outside the bounds of the law.  We brought the 5 hens (“The Girls”) in under the cover of darkness and keep them happy, healthy, and concealed behind our house.   I wanted to name them Diana Ross and the Supremes (Mary, Flo, and Betty) and Anne Frank, but the kids had other ideas.  So, of course, “the girls” are now Hoddy Toddy, Bojangles, Darth Vader, Coca Cola, and Friday.  I think the names suit them.  And after a slow start we’re now averaging 3 eggs a day.  For a while it was Darth and Coca Cola carrying all the weight in terms of egg production, but now I have the hardest working girls in the business.  No free loading allowed at Stanley Farms.
